Familiar Quotations by John Bartlett is a 1614-page hardcover by Little, Brown and Company, and this is the 1955 Centennial edition. No dust jacket. There is light bumping to the spine. Inside, the pages are clean and unmarked and the binding is straight and sound. The condition is very good.
The object of this work is to show, to some extent, the obligations our language owes to various authors for numerous phrases and familiar quotations which have become "household words." Though perhaps imperfect in some respects, it is believed to posses the merit of accuracy, as the quotations have been taken from the original sources. The Centennial Edition is the thirteenth since the book first appeared in 1891.
